Learn New Methods for Dividing Fractions

Do you remember how to divide fractions? Today we will look at a new method for dividing fractions.

On this blog, we have seen two methods for dividing fractions: cross multiplication and inversion of fractions and multiplication. Click here to review the methods of dividing fractions: Cross multiply and inversion.

To complete any operation with fractions, you must also know how fractions are simplified. Click here to review the simplification of fractions.

Are you ready to start?  Ok, let’s look at another method for solving exercises on dividing fractions, which is:

The Double C Method

It involves making a single fraction from the two fractions that we must divide and simplifying the new fraction. Let’s look at this method with the following example:divide fractions

To solve this example with the double c method, we must follow these steps:

  • The first thing to do is place the first fraction (dividend fraction) in the numerator and the second fraction (divisor fraction) in the denominator:

divide fractions

  • Then we draw the Double C: The big C is between the two ends of the fraction, and then the small C is between the two internal digits:

divide fractions

  • Now, multiply according to the double C: the product of the ends (big C) will be in the numerator of the resulting fraction, and the product of the internal digits (small C) will be the denominator of the fraction:

  • We can now solve the multiplication:
    divide fractions
  • And as always, we simplify the fraction until it can no longer be reduced:
    divide fractions

What did you think of this method to divide fractions?  Is it easier or do you prefer another method?
