As you may know, at Smartick, we’re advocates of more than just math. For one, our curriculum covers not just arithmetic, but coding, logic, and word problems. Not only does reading help your vocabulary, concentration, and memory, there’s so much more!
What if we can somehow mix reading and math together? Today, we want to share an article from Standford Graduate School of Education to pique your child’s math curiosity through reading!
Whether you’re in the midst of summer or preparing for the new school year, you can use reading as a tool to help your children foster curiosity and enjoyment for math. There are tons of books out there that can help children develop strong literacy skills. However, books with math concepts crafted into the pictures and narrative can bolster a basic math understanding within children. Fundamental concepts such as numbers, patterns, and basic measurement can be introduced through these books. You can help encourage and pique your children’s interest by pointing out the math and asking questions.
Now let’s get to the nitty-gritty: the book recommendations! Math might sound like a tricky topic to weave into children’s storybooks, but the list below will show you otherwise. Oftentimes, the books mix math with topics that children find interesting and fun, such as animals, that helps spur their curiosity.
